Product details
The head pulley is located at the discharge point of the conveyor. It usually drives the conveyor and often has a larger diameter than other pulleys. For better traction, the head pulley is usually lagged (with either rubber or ceramic lagging material).
Application and selection guide
A head pulley sits at the discharge end of a belt conveyor and forms part of the belt’s turning arrangement. Its surface and mechanical interfaces must be considered with discharge geometry, cleaning equipment and the conveyor’s drive configuration.
Where this product fits
Explain whether the head pulley is driven and show the discharge chute and cleaner positions. Those interfaces affect access and the practical space around the pulley face.
Information for a suitable proposal
Provide the assembly drawing, shaft and bearing details, belt construction and existing covering. Include information about slip, uneven wear or carryback where those problems prompted the replacement.
Pulley selection involves the belt, shaft, bearings, mounting arrangement and operating duty together. Provide an assembly drawing showing the face width, shaft geometry, bearing positions and any coupling or locking interface. Describe the belt construction and conveyor position so that the proposed arrangement can be reviewed in context.
Installation and maintenance considerations
Inspect lagging, bearing mounts and the discharge area during maintenance. Check the cleaner relationship and belt alignment before returning the assembly to service.
Include information about the existing surface covering, contamination, access and the reason for replacement. The suitability of a pulley is not established by diameter alone. During installation, alignment, bearing support and belt condition should be checked as a system; inspection and adjustment should follow the equipment supplier’s instructions and the site’s isolation procedure.
